Andela Partners CNCF to Upskill 20,000 Africans on Cloud Native Tech Skills

Andela, a leading global tech talent marketplace, has partnered with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) and Linux Foundation Education to launch a transformative initiative aimed at training over 20,000 African technologists in cloud-native technologies.

Set to commence in 2025, this program will span two to three years and is designed to equip participants with essential skills in cloud-native development, focusing on Kubernetes and related technologies. The training will be offered at no cost to participants, providing an invaluable opportunity for African developers to enhance their expertise and competitiveness in the global tech industry.

Participants will have the opportunity to pursue certifications such as the Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate (KCNA), which validates foundational knowledge in Kubernetes and the broader cloud-native ecosystem, and the Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), certifying the ability to design, build, and deploy applications on Kubernetes.

Chris Aniszczyk, CTO of CNCF, emphasized the global impact of this educational initiative, stating, “By standardizing cloud-native knowledge, developers across the globe can confidently work toward certifications that will enable them to land developer positions both within their own countries and globally.”

The collaboration between Andela and CNCF addresses the growing demand for cloud-native skills worldwide. According to industry reports, there is an anticipated shortage of 7.5 million cloud-related roles by 2025. This initiative not only equips African tech talent with the skills needed to excel in a cloud-native world but also opens doors to global job opportunities as demand for cloud-native expertise grows.

Carrol Chang, CEO of Andela, highlighted Africa’s emerging significance in the global tech landscape, noting, “The continent is emerging as one of the most important markets in the world. It has the fastest-growing population of developers, and its young workforce will be key to solving the tech talent shortage.”

This partnership builds upon Andela’s commitment to advancing tech education and employment opportunities across Africa. By leveraging CNCF’s expertise in cloud-native technologies and Andela’s extensive network of African technologists, the program aims to create a robust pipeline of skilled professionals ready to meet the evolving demands of the global tech industry.

As the world increasingly shifts towards cloud-native solutions, initiatives like this are crucial in ensuring that African technologists are not only participants but also leaders in the digital transformation journey.
